Girls' Junior School & Infant School update - 16/03/2018

Dear Parents,

It is not every day you meet a relative of Emmeline Pankhurst and this week our Junior Girls’ did! Kate Pankhurst is the inspirational author of ‘Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World’, ‘Great Women Who Changed History’ and more. Her books are engaging, beautifully presented and informative. Year 4 have used her books as part of their studies at the start of the year learning about great women and their journeys. Kate presented the children with her ideas and actively involved them in her presentation, dressing them up as the famous women she writes about in her books. We invited the Year 3 and Year 4 boys to join us as Year 4 have also studied her book and they were equally enthralled. The message was loud and clear, ‘You can be anything you want to be’, determination and resilience of character, all of which encompass our school aims. To finish off the afternoon signed copies of her books were enthusiastically purchased and the children went home motivated to conquer the world!

Alongside our author visit we would like to gather some photographs of children reading. Not just reading at home but reading in unusual places or in their favourite places if they so choose. To add some excitement we would like to capture some ‘Extreme Readers’ and so we are holding a competition to see who reads in the most ‘Extreme’ place… whilst on top of Holcombe Hill, in a tree house in the garden or upside down in bed! We will leave this to your imaginations and look forward to your entries!

The children have been busy with assessments this week and so should look forward to a well-earned rest this weekend.
