Well done to this week's Stars of the Week!
This week Reception have been learning all about Founders’ Day.
They have listened to the story behind our school crest; the swan holding the key. They have acted out the story of the huntsman with his bow in their Drama lesson with Mrs Jones and danced to the dramatic music of Mahler. The children have drawn some fabulous pictures of swans using black paper and white chalk. We have enjoyed listening to the Combined Cadet Force band and talked about the traditions carried out by the Head Girl and Boys’ School Captain. Aspirations have been ignited in the children: many of them have expressed wishes to be in the Combined Cadet Force and also to be Head Girl or Boys’ School Captain. Absolutely, Reception; aim high!
Saint George’s Day was celebrated in Year 1.
The children extended their geographical knowledge of England and learned the story of St. George and the dragon. The children enjoyed acting out the tale in their drama lesson. Afterwards, we had scones with jam and cream as a quintessential English teatime treat.
From Dragons to Dinosaurs…the children have started their new topic on ‘Roarsome Dinosaurs’. The children are finding out interesting information about these creatures and distinguishing between fact and fiction.
Year 2 have been investigating minibeasts as part of their topic, ‘Wriggle and Crawl’.
After a brilliant afternoon with ‘The Bug Man’ last week, the children were keen to go and investigate minibeasts in the wild on the school grounds. We gathered some bug-catching equipment and made some rules for the investigation. The children discussed how they should be considerate not to disturb habitats whilst looking and they decided that the trees and bushes would be a good place to start. After some time outside, the children were able to find a variety of mini beasts and talk about why they choose to live in the habitat in which they were found.
Well done to Teddy and Ronnie's football team outside school who won the North Bury Under-7 final on Saturday.
They played fantastically to win 6-2 against a strong team.
