Reception have marked the beginning of Lent by making traditional Shrove Tuesday pancakes. We read a recipe together and then the children independently wrote ingredients lists (including their favourite toppings.) The ingredients were carefully measured and the batter was thoroughly and enthusiastically mixed. Everyone enjoyed eating the pancakes and tummies were definitely full that afternoon.
Year 1 have been enjoying their new Science topics about the body and the senses. The children have been learning the names of different parts of the body – ask your child to name them for you! As part of that topic we conducted a class tally about eye colour. We then completed one of our first attempts at a bar chart to present the scientific data we had gathered. We enjoyed sharing our ideas and information. Try to prompt your child to use language such as ‘axis’, ‘labels and ‘prediction’ in their explanations.
This week Year 2 used a variety of polystyrene balls to create their own imaginary model. First the children dyed their polystyrene balls using marbling inks and watched as they absorbed the inks to make wonderful patterns. Once they had dried, the children worked in teams to create their own imaginary structures. The children had great fun and produced some fabulously creative work!
