Reception

Reception are enjoying our new, ‘train station with coffee shop’, role play area.

Role play areas provide rich language opportunities for the children to imagine and recreate roles and experiences. They often introduce a narrative or story line into their play. Positive relationships are formed as the children play cooperatively, taking turns and taking account of one another’s ideas. We encourage the children to play in a group extending and elaborating play ideas. Reception are writing train tickets with dream destinations. These destinations have varied from Abu Dhabi to going to visit an auntie. A map of Great Britain and the World are on the station wall. We are learning how to tell time (hourly/ o’clock) so we can follow a train timetable. The cash tills in the ticket office and the coffee shop are very popular and give us a purposeful opportunity to talk about money and coins.

Year 1

During Research Week, Year 1 have been extending their knowledge of ‘The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’ (to use the full title).

The children have used non-fiction books and the internet to research, as well as learn about, the famous myths and legends of the Loch Ness Monster, the Giants’ Causeway and the Welsh Dragon. We finished this mini-topic on Tuesday April 23rd when we celebrated Saint George’s Day. The children have enjoyed tasting different foods from the different countries.

Year 2

Year 2 have had a great week researching a variety of topics.

They have been finding out about a range of different minibeasts and thinking of different ways of presenting their findings. The children loved using a range of non-fiction texts and the internet to find out information. They then created an interesting way to display their knowledge and showed their work to the rest of the class. We had Powerpoint presentations, posters, display boards, models and lots of other creations. Well done Year 2!
