Year 7 had a very interesting Cross-Curricular trip to Manchester Crown Court on Monday.
BGSG took over a court room for the day and each student was allocated a role to play in a mock trial.
The trial was based on a real life cyber bullying case and involved the defendant sitting in the real dock whilst defending and prosecuting barristers eloquently made their case to the jury. Eight witnesses were called by the clerk and sworn in by the usher.
The judge presided over the whole affair before the jury delivered the verdict and the judge then passed sentence.
Due to court restrictions we couldn’t take photos inside the court building, which was a shame as students got the opportunity to dress the part, with wigs and gowns.
Despite not having a photo as a permanent reminder, the day will no doubt be one to remember for a long time.
We also visited the People’s History Museum where we were inspired to get involved in ideas worth fighting for: equality, social justice, co-operation, and a fair world for all.
