Coach Services

Bury Grammar School provides coach services offering a safe, convenient and direct journey to and from our campus.

The School coach services give parents and carers peace of mind that their child will arrive at School safely. The School offers three flexible booking options that support parents and carers with the daily routine of the school run. All options involve pre-booking so that your child’s seat on the School coach is guaranteed. Tickets are issued on a first come first served basis so please book early to avoid disappointment. Where School coaches are full we do operate a waiting list.

New for 2018-19, Bury Grammar School is delighted to include the Middleton coach route in our coach offering. Please see the following link for details on how this service will operate and details of how to book this service: Middleton coach

There are 3 Flexible options for pre-booked journeys:

1. Pre-booked Daily Return Option for a term

This option offers pupils a daily return journey for an entire term.

This method guarantees a seat and enjoys our lowest journey fares and sibling discounts. Termly tickets are issued by the Bursar’s Office prior to the start of each term.

2. Pre-booked Daily One-Way Option for a term

This option offers pupils a pre-booked one-way ticket, either a ‘ticket to school’ or a ‘ticket from school’ for an entire term.

Please note a ticket that is used to go to school cannot be used as a ticket going from school and vice versa.

This is designed to help parents and carers who can always make School journey arrangements at one end of the day but struggle with the School journey at the other end of the day.

This method guarantees a seat on the coach. Termly tickets are issued by the Bursar’s Office prior to the start of each term.

3. Single Journey Option

Designed to help parents and carers who would like their children to use the School coaches on an infrequent, ad hoc basis.

The features of this offering are:

  • Up to 6 journeys in either direction in any 30-day period.
  • Individual journey bookings to be made via the Bursar’s office a minimum of 24 hours in advance of intended travel date (without this we cannot guarantee a seat on the coach).
  • Travel is with a valid pass/ticket only which is issued by the Bursar’s office and can be collected by pupils from their School office.
  • Bookings taken on a first come first served basis, there may not always be space on the coach for your chosen journey, so please book as early as you can. This will be explained at the time of booking.
  • Pupils must have a valid ticket for travel, the driver will retain ticket when used.
  • Individual journeys can be paid for at the time of booking or added to the next available direct debit or fee bill.

Coach fares and discounts

Coach fares for the termly tickets are billed termly in advance.

For all daily journeys booked a term in advance we offer pupils in years 11, 12 and 13 a reduced termly fare during the Summer term to reflect study leave. Sibling discounts of 20% are available for families where more than one child uses the coach. The first child will be charged at the standard fare and all subsequent siblings will receive a 20% discount.

Please note there are no discounts available when purchasing single journey tickets.

Juniors

We realise that School coaches are not suitable for our youngest pupils but parents may wish to consider this option for children in the later years of the Junior Schools. There will be priority seating at the front of the coaches for Junior School pupils.

Safety

All BGS coaches are fitted with seatbelts, have DBS checked drivers and all pupils are fully insured when using the BGS coaches. The BGS coaches are for our pupils only, no other school nor the general public can use them. To reach the campus from the bus stops BGS girls have only one road to cross which has a crossing attendant. BGS Junior Boys have a small side road to cross at Tenterden Street and BGS Senior Boys have to cross Bridge Road.

Behaviour

To ensure everyone using the School coach has a safe and pleasant journey we do have transport regulations that we ask all parents to sign before their child can use the School coaches. Details are available from the Bursar’s office.
